Picked this Taco out of the Gold lot. It is a new 2019 with just a couple hundred miles. Have to say so far I dont understand why these are so popular. Steering is very slow and heavy. Power is very weak and the engine is coarse. Handles ok. Brakes dont seem good. Tech is bad. It does look good though and the seats are comfortable. Tacoma has been on my curious and maybe list but not anymore. Maybe the update coming out will make it better.

Amen. Current gen Taco is massively overrated. We had a loaner 2017 while the 2003 was getting it's frame replaced, and we thought it sucked.

I haven’t driven one. But, if you want a new pickup with a manual transmission, it’s one of the only choices.

Heck, if you want “not a coupe” with a manual transmission, it's one of the only choices.

I hope next weeks refresh debut will at l east address the power problem. Knowing Toyota though, that's the one thing they won't touch. They'll probably just update the front end and tailights, and add another USB port for the rear passengers.

I think those are all reasons *why* it’s so popular. Low tech, engine that is slow but tough. All Toyota brakes suuuuuuccckkk.

In the land of pickups, especially midsize, you can get a well equipped 4x4 for $34k, either a Sport or Off Road. It’s not a bad deal, especially if you don’t need a full size.

i understand the appeal of a rugged truck, but I could not get the seat in a comfy spot. i like my seats near vertical.
